Watchtower Eliminated the "Evil Slave Class" according to E-Watchman? True or False?
by AuntConnie inlooking for information to make the july 15th, 2013 watchtower make sense, i came across the e-watchman website.
is he a jehovah's witnesses waiting for the reformation or a apostate like all of us on jwn?.
his post on the "faithful and evil slave" is very enlightening, according to his question he received from his readers, the watchtower said "there is no evil slave class" to eliminate fear the evil slave is working at bethel!.

"You're Stumbling Me"
by Ding inthe wts sometimes turns the "stumbling" concept into a manipulative weapon.. the biblical concept of "stumbling" is that if you know someone else has a weakness you shouldn't do something that will cause him to cave in to that weakness.
for example, if you have a friend who is trying to fight alcohol addiction you shouldn't invite him to go somewhere where everyone else will be imbibing.. i think it's perfectly legitimate for a friend to tell you that he has a drinking problem and that he'd really appreciate it if you would refrain from serving alcohol while he's over.
but i think it crosses a line if the friend tries to manipulate you into swearing off alcohol altogether because the mere thought of you drinking booze will stumble him.. but some jws try to get others to refrain from doing things "so you don't stumble me.

The original post is the single-best comment on stumbling I've ever seen, and nails what I hate about the concept.

Isn't all JW's love for each other like this? That's been my experience, it seems. They're nice and cordial and but guarded if you're not in service regularly or miss meetings. It makes going to meetings hard, ironically enough.

A few Random Memorial Observations:
by zarco injohn 3:16 was highlighted for several minutes by the speaker.
the new world translation: for god loved the world so much that he gave his only-begotten son, in order that everyone exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life.new jerusalem bible "yes, god loved the world so much, that he gave his only son, so that everyone who believes in him, may not die but have eternal life.
"the obvious difference is that the speaker used john 3:16 as a guilt trip for those to do more.... exercise faith when the real meaning of the scripture seems much different.

I was surprised that the number partaking last year was over 10,000. Huh? It was like around 4K about 10 years ago (if I am not mistaken). My wife and I looked each other in disbelief. How is that number getting bigger? LOL

"Ring" or "Knock" ? --- "Once" or "twice" ?
by JH inin the field service, i never rang the door bell.
i would knock all the time, because a person could be working midnight to eight and i could wake them up.
ok, the real reason was that i didn't want them to answer the door.. and i would knock like this: "knock knock knock".......then i'd wait about 30 seconds and then another "knock knock knock" but not any harder...and i'd walk away with contentment.

I ring first, then knock, and then leave.

Did being a JW make you overly judgemental?
by Frequent_Fader_Miles inlooking back, being a jw meant constantly analyzing and categorizing others.
on field service, persons were either "sheeplike" or "goatlike".
in the congregation it went even further.

Wow, this topic is spot-on. I'm active and was raised in the Truth, and I saw this a lot, and I can't stand this. It amazes me how many brothers and sisters can quote scripture but forget the one about pointing out Matthew 7:3-5: "Why, then, do you look at the straw in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the rafter in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Allow me to extract the straw from your eye’; when, look! a rafter is in your own eye? 5 Hypocrite! First extract the rafter from your own eye, and then you will see clearly how to extract the straw from your brother’s eye." I knew a sister who said she only wanted to marry a brother was a ministerial servant or an elder, because that meant they were spirtually minded and strong. She was "in love" for years with this one single elder, but the moment he started having some legitimate emotional issues and went through things where he stepped down as an elder, she stopped having her heart set on him and turned her nose up at him (basically) because he was now "weak." I know we're supposed to put up with one another in love but sometimes I just want to scream at people like this.

How many JW's are leaving the the org each year - is the figure rising?
by Must obey! ini think i've seen clever posters work out how many leave the organisation each year, or at least stop being 'publishers'.
how many have been leaving each year since 2000?
is the number increasing?.

You could glean that information from the Yearbooks, correct? I'm so bad... every year we get them and I barely ever crack them open. My wife (also a Witness) will go through it and tell me some of the encouraging stories, but I can't seem to get in gear and read them.

The real story: Is your congregation stagnant, dwindling or thriving?
by truthseeker inwith the 2007 service year stats out one could be forgiven for thinking that wt's problems are over, the child abuse settlement an itch in their bethel backside and the blood issue a minor annoyance.. if the truth were known, it is probably that more often than not, congregations are in decline, attendance is poor and few new recruits are not already jw family members.. so, if you know how your congregation is doing, if you have the pulse of your hall, let us know.. .
my congregation (which shall remain nameless).
dwindling attendance at all meetings (around 80%).

I wouldn't say it's growing, but not declining either. Sheparding is good, not a whole lot of cliques (but they exist, and I imagine they do in all halls, at least in all the ones I've been in). I get the sense of not belonging, but that's because I'm creative, more "deep" thinking, artistic type, which is like the Dodo bird in the Truth.

For faders: Is the book study meeting the first to go?
by truthseeker inany faders out there, which is the first meeting that you start to miss on a regular basis?.
for me, it is the bookstudy - haven't been in weeks, no one calls, says a word.. so glad not to be reading the revelation book anymore.. from reports i have heard, the book study is the least supported meetings of all five..

Not to hijack the topic, but thanks to all the "welcomes." I've been a long-time lurker; figured I might as well join. :)

I'm still active (hi everyone, new here by the way), and I'd say it's the Ministry school. The book study is easy; it's only an hour long.
